Carmen Mariscal is a Mexican visual artist. Born in Palo Alto, California, USA, she currently lives and works in London, UK.

Carmen Mariscal holds a master’s degree in visual arts from Winchester School of Art, England, studies at the graduate diploma programme in painting at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, London and a BA in art history from Universidad Iberoamericana, Mexico City. She is currently a PhD candidate at the Royal College of Art, London.

As a cross-disciplinary artist, her practice investigates memory, fragility and confinement. These themes are expressed through photography, sculpture, sound, moving image, theatre set designs and installations.

Carmen Mariscal is the author of the installation El pueblo creador for the Mexican Pavilion at the Universal Exposition in Hannover 2000. Mariscal was awarded first place in the IV National Installation Contest in Mexico and has been selected for the Monterrey Biennial and other competitions. Her latest public work Chez Nous is a sculpture which was on view at the Place du Palais-Royal, Paris from March 12 to June 2, 2020.

Carmen Mariscal has shown her work in solo and group exhibitions in the USA, Mexico, France, Spain, The Netherlands, Germany, Russia, Malaysia and other countries in public venues and private art galleries.
